Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance has completed development of a mobile application to register retailers under the government’s fixed tax scheme, with the final version expected to be launched next week as authorities step up efforts to broaden the tax base, official sources said.
According to the sources, the application will be introduced on a trial basis this week to test its functionality before its official launch. Registration of small retailers through the app is scheduled to begin next month.
Retailers registered under the fixed tax scheme will be required to file their tax returns in September, the sources said. The application will be available in four languages — Urdu, English, Sindhi and Balochi — to improve accessibility for traders across the country.
The sources said retailers who register through the application will receive an FBR Green Plate. The Federal Board of Revenue has already compiled data on more than 3.5 million retailers as part of its documentation drive.
The government aims to collect PKR 50 billion in revenue from retailer registration under the fixed tax scheme during the current fiscal year, according to the sources.
